How to record your screen on Windows 11

The same workflow works on Windows 10. Capture the task, review the automatic edits, and save a video you can share.

  1. 01

    Record your screen

Pick a full screen, app window or custom region. Select your microphone, system audio and optional webcam. Press record or use Ctrl+Shift+R.

  2. 02

    Review the automatic zoom

Stop recording to open the editor. Zooms bring attention to your clicks. Adjust the focus, trim a mistake and choose a cursor style that is easy to see.

  3. 03

    Export and share

Preview the finished composition, then save an MP4 or GIF on your PC. Share that file wherever your audience watches. A licence unlocks export. No watermark is added.

Capture

Easy screen recording

Choose a capture source, check your audio, then start, pause or stop from the recording bar.

Simple to start, powerful when you need more. Screen Crisp records your full screen, a custom region, or any app window—with webcam, microphone, and system audio captured together.

From recording to finished video

Bring the important
details into focus.

Automatic zoom, editable cursor effects and a built-in timeline for Windows.

Smart zoom

Automatic zoom that follows your mouse clicks

Screen Crisp tracks your cursor activity during recording and adds zooms around the action. Small buttons and menus become easier to follow without building every camera move by hand.

Keep the automatic result or adjust each zoom on the timeline. Move its focus, change its duration, choose a level from 1.05× to 3×, or set a manual focus point. Use a gentle zoom for context and a closer view for a precise step.

Cursor effects

Change your mouse cursor after recording

Your pointer is stored separately from the screen video. Choose from 61 styles in seven groups, resize it from 0.8× to 2.6×, or add a spotlight glow after you finish the take.

Smooth shaky movement, choose a click effect or sound, and fade the cursor when it is idle. A larger pointer helps viewers follow a tutorial on a small screen without covering the control you are explaining.

Webcam

Put your face on screen, exactly where you want it

Record your webcam alongside the screen and show it as a circle or a rectangle. Drag it anywhere on the video, set its size from 10% to 60% of the frame, and adjust the border and shadow so it stands out from the recording.

Your webcam has its own track on the timeline, so you can show it during the introduction, hide it while you demonstrate a detailed step, and bring it back for the summary. Changes are made after recording, without retaking the video.

3D motion

Give your screen recording depth and movement

Tilt the composition in perspective as the camera moves. Your screen, cursor, webcam and annotations stay together on one plane, so the scene remains coherent.

Use a small angle for a product introduction, then return to a straight-on view when the viewer needs to read. Horizontal and vertical controls let you tune the effect without moving to a separate motion graphics editor.

Backgrounds

Frame your recording with a background

Choose a gradient, solid colour, Windows wallpaper or your own image. Add padding around the recording, soften the corners and adjust the shadow to separate the video from its background.

Keep your brand consistent across product updates and tutorials. A quiet background works best when the interface contains small text; a brighter gradient can suit a short feature announcement.

Built-in editor

Edit your take on a multi-track timeline

Video, webcam, zoom, music and annotations have their own tracks. Trim the opening, split around a mistake, or reorder clips. Deleting a section connects the remaining video automatically.

Hide or lock individual tracks while you work. Add text boxes to explain a step and use blur, spotlight or magnifier annotations where needed. The original recording stays intact while edits are stored separately.

Local export

Export a clear MP4 or a short GIF

Save an MP4 with audio for tutorials, training and product walkthroughs. Video output supports up to 4K at 60 fps, depending on the source and your computer. GIF is useful for a short, silent feature loop.

Compatible NVIDIA, Intel and AMD encoders can accelerate MP4 output, with a software fallback available. Preview the result, check the estimated size, then save the finished file locally. Recording and editing are free. A licence is required to export.

Questions about Screen Crisp

Windows SmartScreen showed a warning. What should I do?

A SmartScreen warning is a reputation or security check, not proof that a download is safe. Check the download source and the installer's signing publisher before proceeding. If the publisher is unexpected or Windows identifies a threat, cancel installation. On a managed PC, ask your IT administrator. Read Microsoft's SmartScreen guidance →

Do I need administrator rights to install?

Installation permissions for the release installer have not been confirmed yet. We will state them on the download page when that installer is available. Work or school PCs may require approval from your IT administrator. Check installer availability →

Can I use one licence on two PCs?

Yes. Monthly, annual and lifetime licences allow up to three Windows PCs. Unlink an old PC on the account page before activating a replacement. Manage activated PCs →

Can I get a refund?

Yes. One-time purchases and the first subscription charge are refundable within 14 days, no questions asked. Renewal charges are excluded from this voluntary policy; statutory rights still apply. Read the refund policy →

Does Screen Crisp add a watermark?

No. Exports never carry a watermark. Recording and editing are free; a licence is required to export. The free version includes the full recorder and editor, automatic zoom, cursor styles and 3D motion. Pro unlocks export for $12.99 per month, $47.00 per year or $79.00 lifetime. Compare Free and Pro →

Does Screen Crisp work on Windows 10?

Yes. Screen Crisp supports Windows 10 version 1903 or later and Windows 11 on x64 PCs. You need 8 GB of memory; 16 GB is recommended for 4K projects. See the download page for system requirements. Check your PC →

Is there a recording time limit on the free version?

There is no fixed recording time limit in the free version. Available disk space and your computer’s performance determine how much you can record. Leave room for both the source recording and the finished export.

Can I edit the mouse cursor after recording?

Yes. Screen Crisp stores cursor movement separately and renders the cursor during export. Change its style, size, smoothing, glow and click effects after the take. There are 61 styles in seven groups, with idle fade when the pointer is no longer needed.

What is the difference between Screen Crisp and OBS Studio?

OBS Studio focuses on capture, live mixing and streaming. Screen Crisp combines recording with a built-in editor for automatic zoom, cursor restyling, backgrounds and a multi-track timeline. Choose according to whether you need a live broadcast or an edited demonstration. Read the OBS Studio comparison →

Does automatic zoom work on 1080p recordings?

Yes. Automatic zoom follows recorded cursor activity and is not restricted to 4K recordings. Zooming into 1080p enlarges existing pixels, so moderate zoom levels preserve more detail. Record at a higher source resolution when you need close-ups of small text.

Is my recording uploaded anywhere?

No. Screen capture, editing and encoding run on your Windows computer. No account is needed to download, record or edit. Paid export needs initial online activation and periodic checks; these do not upload your recordings. Your recordings remain in the folder you choose, and you decide whether to share the exported file.

Do I get free updates with the lifetime licence?

Yes. The lifetime licence includes future updates with one payment and no renewal. Monthly and annual licences include updates while subscribed. All three paid options unlock export on up to three Windows PCs. View licence details →

Does Screen Crisp generate automatic captions?

No. You can add text boxes and annotations in the editor, but Screen Crisp does not transcribe speech or generate automatic captions. If your video needs subtitles, plan to add them with a separate captioning tool after export.

Do I need to install a separate video encoder?

No. The media encoder is included with Screen Crisp. Compatible NVIDIA, Intel and AMD hardware encoders can accelerate MP4 export; a software encoder is available when hardware encoding cannot be used.
